I'll post some stuff about Anime North tonight or tommorow, right now I want to talk about Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children
It's cool, yes. The fights are so over the top to the point of ridiculousness, and that's neat, but there's two HUGE problems with it:
(I'd put a spoiler warning but the movie has next to no plot anyway so who cares.)

- Sephiroth doesn't get beaten. At the end, after, the super-duper-ultra-omnislash-lots-of-swor
ds thing, Sephiroth doesn't react. He sprouts a wing, basically says "Well, see ya later!" and then dissapears. He -leaves-. Cloud doesn't beat Sephiroth, he hits him with a big attack and then Sephiroth just floats there and says "ok, bye". For a movie so full of over-the-top, for the end of the final boss fight to be so.. under-the-bottom is unthinkable. He died with more ceremony on the playstation. - That's the other thing: FFVII Advent Children basically undoes FFVII's ending. Sephiroth is still 'out there' in an ethereal sense. If it wasn't for Meteor FFVII would now have been an entirely pointless exercise. At least we know the entire human population wasn't wiped out (that was one of the ending theories.)
