I've not been posting much beyond photos of late, I know. Here's a bit of an update.
J&F Hobbies, the curious little RPG store and jumble shop in the west end of the city, finally closed in the spring of this year. I discovered this last week, when I attemped to bring
shadow_maze there. The store had been in business for 20 years, and perpetually seemed to be on the verge of closing. I first discovered it in 1997. My last visit was in mid-March, when I picked up a bunch of Planescape books, some still in their shrinkwrap.
On Friday evening I was in Toronto for a planning/character generation session for
kores_rabbit's new Eberron game. I've rolled up a Warforged Cleric, a worshipper of the god of profit and gold. I see him as a sort of combination of Syndey Greenstreet, Mr. Punch, and a Franklin stove. After, I drove
kores_rabbit home and my headlights stopped working. Joy!
Saturday,
commanderteddog and her sister,
sassy_fae,
nottheterritory,
catsarah and
momentrabbit were over for the next installment of my Star Wars game. A couple of the players were recovering from flu and were feeling poorly, and my own energy ebbed rapidly as the evening proceeded, so we broke up stupidly early. (Like, 7:30 PM.) However, much of the group had been over before the game for a screening of the 1980 Flash Gordon movie, so the day was not as disappointing as it might have been.

I should make a note of Teddog's dedication to the game! She baked Alderaan Chocolate Chunk Wookie Cookies. Which is to say, she made chocolate chip cookies with green and brown chunks of chocolate in them, representing pieces of Alderaan. Except it's better than that.

You see, in order to create a proper set of Alderaan chunks, she melted the chocolate into a global map Alderaan. Before smashing it, and baking it into cookies.

Also, everyone liked the little Lego minis I put together for them.

Does anyone here go to the gym on Locke that's called The Gym On Locke? What's it like? How much is it? How's the equipment? Would you recommend it?
Further to this post from earlier in the year where some of us wanted to make local friends to go out for drinks (or what have you) and from occasional OT conversations that I have had with some scifi fans-in-hiding on this com (under a previous user name) ...
If you are interested in attending a fun afternoon/evening on Sat.Sept November 21 that combines both of the above, post here and I will send you the details. There will be drinks, appetizers, dessert, movies and other shenanigans for your entertainment. Right here in Hamilton.
Let me suggest though, if you are the kind of person who is belligerent when drinking (or sober), this probably isn’t for you. If you can play nice in the sandbox, then rock on. Also, getting together is for fun and friendship not specifically dating (I hesitate to even say it but if that’s your intent, please at least be subtle about it).
Once again, post if you have any interest and I will PM the details via LJ.

This morning,
After dropping Erin off at work, I drove to Mount Nemo and hiked for an hour. I'm trying get in some aerobic exercise. I still work out a couple of times a week, but I've otherwise been sitting in the house. Mount Nemo is a very cool spot, with 1000 year old cedars, and a lookout point across a plain of farmland toward Rattlesnake Point and Nassagaweya Canyon.
If you squint, you can also see Toronto rising like some sort of legendary citadel out of the brown haze of smog. According to Google Maps, the CN Tower (the largest tower) is 46.15 kilometres (26.68 miles) as the crow flies from the spot where I took that photo.

- 16:55 Angie had an "unsuccessful pregnancy" pcer the weekend. We just found out. #
- 19:00 @alibee sorry, that was a typo for "over". Right now, we're just coping, but thank you. We both appreciate it. #
this is as good a place as any for me to attention whore about my personal problems i suppose
i am starting to more seriously lose my mind in the sense of i am experiencing more and more delusions. i know i should talk to a doctor or doctor-like person about this but i have no idea how to start properly finding one
i am still unready to do any sort of meaningful work because i am unable to avoid procrastinating severely. six to eight years of something should fix that
nobody talk to me until at least march because the part of me that you want to talk to is hibernating in a cave in minnesota in the blizzard in my mind, unless you're kaz in which case hello i'm here feel free to continue to point out exactly what is wrong because i sincerely appreciate that, i'm good at knowing that something in general is wrong but garbage at pinpointing the wrongness and the rays that aforementioned wrongness will emit (rays) (wrongness rays) (emitted from things that are wrong)
switched from bagels to english muffins as bachelor pizza base, seems to work well enough but there is less pizza area so i might have to make more of them. not a dealbreaker
i want to inject something into my bloodstream but i don't know what i want it to be or if i want it do actually have an effect. maybe i should get the flu vaccine and that will satiate my craving
i do not always have control of my body it is inconvenient but so far has not resulted in death of myself or those around me, only injuries. take what you can get, i guess
what a shitty excuse, take some responsibility

people know more than they're aware of and are frequently held back by an inability to explain concepts to each other or themselves. I have an instinctive urge to utilize larger words when possible for equal parts brevity and just showing off words. Like a lot of people, I'm a bit of a linguistic chameleon and I'll adjust my dialog to match the manner of whomever I'm speaking to, unless I'm comfortable with people n which case I variate my grammar to match the concept of the idea I've expressing (cool story bro).
when you die, you're only allowed into heaven if you've reached a state of acceptance that no changes made in reality after your death can annoy you. You have to be at peace with not only the world but all potential worlds. I'm not getting in because I'm still cheeses at the whole Pluto-not-a-planet sitch.

You all knew this was going to happen, right?
You've seen my reviews of Roller Coaster Tycoon and the Conan MMOPRG.
You saw that I'd been playing Sim 2.
You knew what was coming next.
Let me tell you the story of Sammy Slan.
( Sammy Slan, Friend of Every Sim )
Um, just to explain, I walled in the party guests in tiny rooms without toilets or chairs. And left them there for several days until they were passing out at random and really needed showers. Then I let them out. I've not starved anyone to death... yet. I added the glass panels so you could see them in their little niches.
I think I dislike this game. Seriously, most of my fun in games comes from finding interesting ways to do pointless or dangerous things outside of the intended playspace. That's the whole point of Sims 2. The entire game is one big sandbox where you can do almost anything... but the only fun things to do are hit other kids in the head with your shovel.
For me, it's sort of like the video game equivalent of that Twilight Zone episode. Sims 2 is A Night Place to Visit, but I think I prefer the honest sadism of a first person shooter.

In that one Belle Starr post I screwed up the format of the coolest page in the set, so here it is again.

I'm wondering if anyone knows a place that will buy (fairly new, mostly used) textbooks for decent prices. I have a bunch of the textbooks from Mohawk's General Arts & Science program that I really don't need. Some of them are still shrink-wrapped (I obviously cared so much about psychology). I'd prefer downtown/Westdale/Dundas but at this point as long as someone is willing to pay me for them I am happy.
Alternately, if anyone's starting in that program any time soon, I have textbooks in great condition for sale!
